There's also the Polar Bear plunge, where seemingly sane individuals throw themselves into freezing water on New Year’s day. Further north, some folks pit their 4x4 machines against the challenges of driving in the back country; while others slide a 42 pound stone down a sheet of ice. It’s called curling, and it’s not as easy as it looks!

January, 2008 – Outdoor Idaho won for Best Series at the annual PBS gathering in Ohio. "A Palouse Paradise" also won for Best Science & Nature program; and "Idaho Getaways" won the Information category. The awards came from NETA, the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Elk shot in Utah shatters Boone & Crockett record
There's a new world record for a nontypical American elk after an Idaho man bagged an elk on Utah's Monroe Mountain that measured 478 5/8, shattering the former Boone & Crockett record of 478 5/8 set in 1994.
After rescue, B.C. powder seeker says he'd do it all again
One of the four skiers who skied out-of-bounds from British Columbia's Grouse Mountain Resort last week, culminating in the skiers being led back to safety by a RCMP rescue team, said he'd do it again but he may have to head to the United States as Grouse Mountain put Canadian ski resorts on alert for the four skiers, urging that they be banned from the slopes.
